Parent/tot

This class involves parent participation that makes the toddler’s introduction to dance feel safe. Basic listening, following directions and dance skills are introduced with props to develop physical coordination. As students grow more comfortable in the classroom, they will be encouraged to try some exercises on their own with the parents serving as audience to foster independence. This is a 6 week class with no recital performance.

3&4 year old creative movement

Creative movement is often the first dance class for many students on their own. This class promotes a breakdown of primary motor skill movement to fun and exciting activities such as fun songs, special dances, and games. Through imagery and play students learn cooperation, patience, gross motor skills, and self-esteem. This class will include a recital performance.

Kindergarten/1st grade jazz

This is a beginning class introducing students to the upbeat style of jazz to fast, fun music. Basic steps and terminology are taught in a variety of ways to reinforce student’s memory of the steps. Students also learn cooperation with the teacher and other students and boost their self-esteem as they are encouraged to try new things.

Grade school jazz/hip hop

Students in this class will be encouraged to discover their creative side! Children will learn basic hip-hop and jazz technique and choreography with no suggestive lyrics or movements. This class consists of fast choreography to upbeat kid-friendly music. Students are encouraged to have fun expressing their own style through dance movements.

Middle school hip hop

Middle school hip-hop is fast-paced and fun. Intricate movements are broken down slowly and then placed with hip-hop beats and music. Coordination and rhythm are emphasized and self-expression is encouraged.

High school hip hop

This class is similar to middle school hip hop yet is more advanced. Movements become more intricate, the beat becomes faster, and more movements are introduced. The popular style of hip hop is continuously changing so new styles are regularly incorporated into the class.

Advanced hip hop

Students must have staff permission to enroll in this class.

Kindergarten/1st grade tap

This is a beginner class for students who want to experience the dance style of tap. Students will learn the basic building blocks of tap movements and the terminology that accompanies it. Beginner tap teaches the basics of tap dancing and puts basic steps together to create choreography. Students will learn to be focused while having fun.

Beginner tap

Tap is a fun and unique dance style. This class is for students with very little or no tap experience. Beginner tap teaches the basics of tap dancing and puts basic steps together to create choreography. Students will learn cooperation, patience, and coordination.

Beginner plus tap – NOW CALLED G.S. LEVEL 1

This class is similar to beginner tap except students will develop a larger repertoire of beginner steps, and apply existing knowledge of the basics to more complex combinations.

Intermediate tap – NOW CALLED G.S. LEVEL 2

This class is geared toward mastering basic tap skills and building upon the technique learned in G.S. Level 1. Students in this class should have a strong understanding of the fundamentals and be able to perform steps with clarity of sounds. Students will put the fundamentals to work by learning new steps, rhythms, patterns, and combinations.

Intermediate plus tap – NOW CALLED M.S. LEVEL 1 & 2

A slightly more advanced class than G.S. level 2. Middle School Students will begin to learn advanced steps and encouraged to add speed to fundamental steps already mastered.

Advanced tap – NOW CALLED H.S.

These are the most advanced tap classes offered. These classes focus on fast and intricate footwork. Students are encouraged to master speed and execute complex rhythmic combinations with precision and clarity. Students must have staff permission to enroll in H.S. Level 2.

Kindergarten/ 1st grade ballet

This is an introductory class to the classical dance style of ballet. Students will learn basic ballet movements and vocabulary in a fun and positive atmosphere. Often games and props are used to reinforce student’s memory of what they learn in class. Participation and cooperation are focused on through positive reinforcement.

Beginning Ballet

This class is for students with little or no experience in ballet. It introduces children to the ballet barre and masters all beginning ballet movements. Designed to keep the class fun and entertaining while reinforcing terminology and beginning technique.

Intermediate Ballet – NOW CALLED GS LEVEL 1&2

This class includes a ballet barre warm-up, center work, and across the floor. Proper ballet technique and body posture will be emphasized as students learn to how to properly connect all ballet movements through choreography. There will be a focus on ballet terminology and its meaning.

Intermediate Plus Ballet – NOW CALLED MS BALLET

Included is a barre warm-up, center work, and across the floor. There will be a focus on proper technique for turns, jumps, and leaps as well as continued work on terminology and more challenging choreography in preparation to pre-pointe. Strength, poise and grace are stressed throughout the class.

Pre-Pointe

This class is for students anticipating pointe classes and focuses on strengthening foot, ankle, and leg muscles while working on proper body and arm placements while dancing. Students must have staff permission to enroll in this class.

Advanced Ballet – NOW CALLED HS 1&2

This class focuses on continued technique and perfecting choreography. Students must have staff permission to enroll in this class.

Pointe class

Students must have taken pre-point as a pre-requisite and be at least intermediate plus level dancers. Pointe is taken in addition to a regular ballet class as it focuses primarily on the technique of being on pointe shoes.

Contemporary

This class focuses on unconventional movement and encourages expression of one’s own feelings. This style of dance uses body contractions, oppositional movement, and off-center body shapes. Self-expression is highly encouraged in this class.

Middle School Lyrical

Students will work on dancing with emotion and expressing their self through dance. Basicballet technique will be taught as it is the basis for all lyrical movements.

High School Lyrical

Students will work on expressing emotions through dance and movement for their class and especially for recital performances. Core work and stretching will be a focus. Ballet technique will be continued as it is the basis for all lyrical movements.

Advanced Lyrical

This is an advanced lyrical class that will challenge dancers with complicated phrases and movements. Students must have staff permission to enroll in this class.

Boys Hip Hop

These classes are designed especially for boys.They are high energy and consist of a focus on male choreography and movement. Hip-hop choreography, basic break dancing, tricks and freestyle are emphasized in this unique class for boys only.
